  • How do we define flocculant, coagulant aid, conditioner for water treatment? What is the different between flocculant, coagulant aid, conditioner for water treatment?

According to the different uses of sludge filtration treatment, these agents can be divided into the following types:

1, flocculant: sometimes known as coagulant, can be used as a means to strengthen solid-liquid separation, for the primary sedimentation tank, secondary sedimentation tank, flotation tank and tertiary treatment or advanced treatment process.

2,coagulant aid: auxiliary flocculant play a role in strengthening the coagulation effect.

3, conditioning agent: also known as dehydrating agent, used for the conditioning of residual sludge before dehydration, its varieties include the above part of the flocculant and coagulant aid.

  • The relationship between flocculant, coagulant aid and conditioner.

Dehydrating agent is the agent added before dewatering sludge, that is, the adjuster of sludge, so the meaning of dehydrating agent and adjuster is the same. The dosage of dehydrating agent or conditioner is generally measured as a percentage of the dry solid weight of the sludge.

Flocculant is an important agent in the field of water treatment, which is used to remove suspended matter in sewage. The dosage of flocculant is generally expressed as the amount of added per unit volume of water to be treated.

The dosage of dehydrating agent (conditioner), flocculant and coagulant aid can be called the dosage. The same agent can be used as flocculant in the treatment of sewage, and can be used as conditioner or dehydrating agent in the treatment of residual sludge.

Coagulants used in the field of water treatment as flocculant additives are called coagulants aid, the same coagulant aid in the residual sludge treatment is generally not called coagulants aid, but collectively referred to as adjuster or dehydrating agent.

When using flocculants, because the amount of suspended matter in the water is limited after all, in order to achieve full contact between the flocculant and the suspended particles, it is necessary to be equipped with mixing and reaction facilities, and to have sufficient time, such as mixing takes tens of seconds to a few minutes, and the reaction takes 15 to 30 minutes. When the sludge is dehydrated, the time from adding the conditioner to the sludge entering the dehydrator is often only tens of seconds, that is, only the mixing process equivalent to the flocculant, no reaction time, and experience also shows that the conditioning effect will be reduced with the extension of the stay time.
